About The Pool Hall

Built in 1954, the billiards hall was owned and operated by club promoter and musician Clyde Killens. The Clyde Killens Pool Hall sat along Overtown’s major entertainment corridor, NW 2nd Avenue. Frequent guests in its heyday included Muhammad Ali (then a young Cassius Clay), boxer Archie Moore, and comedian Flip Wilson. In a 1990 interview with the Miami Herald, Killens shared, “It was the classiest operation around. Always someone big in there.”

The Pool Hall has now been restored as a speakeasy lounge on the second floor of Red Rooster Overtown.

Ascend a narrow stairway lined with the names and faces of some of the greatest stars of all time — Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Sam Cooke — and arrive at the neon glow that welcomes you to the Harlem of the South.
